Advanced WaveLight LASIK

Serving patients from Boise and throughout the Treasure Valley, The Eye Associates offers WaveLight LASIK at our offices in Meridian and Caldwell. When it comes to your eyes, advanced technology combined with personalized treatment isn't optional. It's essential. It's this commitment to individualization that makes WaveLight® LASIK the procedure Dr. Kent recommends for his patients.

The WaveLight EX500 laser combines wavefront-optimized treatment, sophisticated real-time eye-tracking, and small-spot beam shaping for outstanding, consistent outcomes. The laser maps the unique distortions in your visual system and corrects them with pinpoint accuracy, effectively sculpting your prescription directly onto the cornea.

Personalized Vision with Contoura

Contoura Vision is topography-guided LASIK, meaning your cornea is analyzed using 22,000 unique elevation points before treatment even begins. The WaveLight EX500 automatically adjusts every laser pulse to match your unique corneal topography. Just as your fingerprint is completely unique to you, Contoura creates a procedure tailored to your eyes.

Bladeless Treatment

We use the ultra-fast iFS® Femtosecond Laser for Step 1 of LASIK. This laser creates a thin, precisely customized flap, shaped to your individual eye, separating the corneal tissue without a blade. The result is a safer, more precise foundation for your vision correction.

Excimer Treatment Technology

Based on the digital data from your personalized corneal map, the WaveLight EX500 excimer laser gently reshapes the cornea to the desired curvature. When the flap is put back in place, you're roughly 24 hours away from dramatically clearer vision.

What to Expect During and After LASIK

We apply numbing eye drops before your procedure, so you won't feel pain. You may notice a brief, light sensation of pressure as the cornea is prepared. Afterward, we ask you to go home and rest. Avoid reading or screens for the first 24 hours. Watching TV from across the room is fine.

You may experience mild scratchiness or light sensitivity for the first few days. This is completely normal. Most patients see well enough to drive themselves to their post-op visit the very next morning.

PRK vs. LASIK

Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is a flapless alternative to LASIK that uses the same precise excimer laser reshaping, just without creating a corneal flap first. PRK is often recommended for patients with thinner or irregularly shaped corneas. Healing takes a bit longer (about one week for comfortable vision, one month for full crispness), but PRK delivers the same outstanding long-term results as LASIK.

Am I a good candidate for LASIK?

Most healthy adults who want LASIK can have it, but the best outcomes depend on the right fit. During your free consultation, Dr. Kent evaluates:

  • Stable prescription for at least one to two years
  • Adequate corneal thickness for safe flap creation and reshaping
  • No significant dry eye disease or active eye conditions
  • Overall good general health

The WaveLight EX500 can treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and most types of astigmatism. If your corneas are thinner or your prescription falls outside the treatable range, Dr. Kent may recommend PRK as an equally effective alternative. If you were told you weren't a LASIK candidate years ago, today's technology may tell a different story. It's worth a fresh evaluation.

Can LASIK Fix Astigmatism?

LASIK can correct many types of astigmatism. During your consultation, we'll review your corneal measurements and let you know exactly what LASIK can achieve for your specific eyes.

How Much Does LASIK Cost in Boise?

LASIK at The Eye Associates is $1,500 per eye, all-inclusive, with no hidden fees and no sliding scale based on prescription strength. Your fee covers your consultation, comprehensive eye mapping, the procedure itself, and all follow-up care visits.

LASIK is considered elective, so most insurance plans don't cover it. However, FSA and HSA funds can be applied, and we offer extended payment plans through CareCredit and GreenSky. Check with your employer; some plans offer a partial LASIK benefit worth using. Financing options are available.
